10 healthy habits you must teach your children

As parents, you aren’t only passing on your genes to your baby, but also healthy habits, as the child learns a lot from you every day. So, if you’re wondering how you can take care of your child’s health, you should stick to a healthy lifestyle.

So show your children that you care by teaching them healthy habits that will help them throughout their lives.

And if you don’t know where to start, try the following:

Brushing their teeth twice a day

Oral hygiene is very important. Teach your children how to brush their teeth and tongue. And make them realize the importance of doing so twice a day from childhood.

Children tend to eat a lot, so they should keep their teeth clean to prevent tooth decay. Also, teach them not to eat after brushing their teeth at night.

Daily bath

Teach them the importance of bathroom hygiene and staying neat and clean at all times. You can encourage this habit by using attractive bath tubs, soaps, shampoos and easy-to-use toys.

Also, bathing twice a day should be instilled in children from childhood to prevent germs from entering their bodies.

Breakfast

Get your child into a breakfast-lunch-dinner routine to help them avoid unnecessary snacking in the first place.

Teach your children that breakfast is the food for the “brain” and helps them stay strong and prevent chronic diseases.

Try making a nutritious breakfast incorporating a variety of fruits and vegetables that help your child stay energized and active throughout the day.

Wash hands frequently

Hand washing is undoubtedly at the top of the list when it comes to getting your child to adopt healthy habits. So be sure to explain the importance of hand washing.

Teach your children to wash their hands after using the toilet, before eating, after coming home from playing outside, to prevent contamination. Teach them to wash their hands with soap for at least 20 seconds.

More water, less soft drinks

Keep the message simple by saying that water is healthy, while soft drinks are not. Teach them that soft drinks contain too much sugar which is bad for them.

Even if kids don’t understand why sugar is unhealthy, you can help them understand the important aspects of health.

The sugar contained in soft drinks doesn’t contain nutrients instead it contains unnecessary calories that can lead to many health problems. So be sure to teach your child this healthy habit.

Regular physical exercise

Does your child watch more than 2 hours of TV every day? If so, watch out! Children who watch TV for more than 2 hours can develop many health problems such as obesity, irregular sleep and attention disorders.

So take them outside and encourage your children to find happiness in outdoor games or ask them to do household activities like washing toys or gardening.

Encourage them to play different sports and if they don’t find sports interesting, encourage them to try again and again and be active with you.

Daily reading

Childhood is the time when your child develops different skills, including reading. Help your child read to develop strong listening and reading skills to succeed in school and work later in life. Encourage them to read all the stories that excite them and make reading a part of your child’s playtime and bedtime routine.

Family time

Family time is extremely important to a child. Make sure you eat lunch or dinner with your child every day. This helps to have a better communication within the family as the child enjoys time and connects with you. It also makes him feel important and loved.

Spending time with friends

Friends are very important to a child’s healthy development. Playing with good friends teaches your children valuable social skills such as communication, cooperation and problem solving.

In addition, it indirectly affects their performance in school. Encourage your children to develop a good friendship and play with such friends often. Such skill will put them in touch with life as they will rely on their friends for years to come.

Positive thinking

Children at this age are easily discouraged when things don’t go their way. Teach them the importance of staying positive with healthy self-esteem and a positive mindset by telling them they are loved and unique. This will help them a lot in life, whatever challenges they may face.

It’s not always easy to encourage your child to follow healthy habits. But don’t give up because it’s your responsibility! Try hard to make them learn. Because by following these tips your child can lead a healthy lifestyle from childhood.
