The researchers, who published their findings in the American Clinical Nutrition Review (AJCN), believe that this happens because water “cuts down” the appetite, resulting in less food consumption.

The US Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommends that adults consume about 2.5 liters of fluid per day. This quantity includes water from food and all kinds of beverages and drinks (including coffees, soft drinks, juices, sodas, etc.)

Zero calories

According to lead researcher Dr. Rebecca Mukelbauer of the Charité University School of Public Health in Berlin, it is estimated that the average adult consumes 400-500 calories a day from the beverages he consumes. If, therefore, one takes care to change the type of drinks consumed to lighter or zero-calorie versions or even plain water, it’s very likely that one will lose even more weight.

But that is not enough

However, Dr. Mukelbauer and her colleagues were quick to point out that water is not a panacea. Many of the obese and overweight volunteers in the studies they analyzed drank more water than their lean counterparts. But at the same time they consumed more calories.
