It has been found that the blue light emitted by the screen of electronic devices that are used daily (cell phones, laptops, tablets, e-books, etc.) causes disturbances in our biological clock and causes severe disturbances in the mechanism of sleep. For this reason it is recommended to avoid using gadgets in bed at night.

Researchers at the University of Colorado in the USA argue that, if the light of the electronic devices causes sleep problems at the adults, the risk is even greater for children. According to researchers, children have a greater problem from their exposure to blue light, because their eyes have not completed their development process.

“Light is the primary brain timer. We know that children have bigger pupils and the lenses of the eye are more transparent, so their sensitivity to blue light is higher than that of other people, “said professor Monik Le Bourges, who was at the head  of the study.

After several related studies, blue light has been found to negatively affect the hormone melatonin, which is directly linked to the organism’s biological clock.

One of the most interesting studies on the blue light effects of electronic devices on the bed was carried out by researchers from Penn State University in the USA, who conducted an experiment in which the volunteers in the first phase of the experiment were using various electronic devices such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets, e-readers etc.

In the second phase the volunteers were reading a book before going to the bed. The researchers found that those who used electronic devices had trouble sleeping. Also, the quality of sleep after using these devices was worse.
